* Recommended Products- This page will contain nutrition-related products that I recommend for pets and their people*. These items will be restricted to those that I have used personally or in my own veterinary practice. I may also include a few products about which I have received outstanding testimonials from Internet clients but I will label them as such. (* As a veterinarian, I cannot formally recommend or prescribe products for humans but I can tell you about those that I have successfully employed in my own recovery.)
Note: As of 2009, it has been over 9 years since I started this journey and, during that time, I have had no sponsors or advertisements of any kind on my Website. It has been all about getting crucial health information into the hands (and paws) of those in need. But along the way, I have found a few products that have been especially useful in the recovery process, some of which are generic while others are very brand-specific. You get what you pay for and, in many cases, the el-cheapo-delux versions are not worth the box in which they came. In the days of pharmaceutical knock-offs (e.g. from China), it is impossible to be too careful.
I have been very slow to break into e-commerce, with the mixed reactions of my clients to Dr. Mercola's site ( being one of the main factors. Although I believe his motives are pure, it is the nature of the public to be suspicious (and rightfully so) and I have received a number of comments like "His information is good but I think, when it comes right down to it, his Website is all about marketing". I don't want to labeled that way any more than he does (thus his videos and comments addressing this important issue).
The fact is that I have been doing "free advertising" for various pet food companies for years by maintaining a list of commercial foods that meet my strict dietary criteria. (Dogtor J.'s Recommended Pet Foods) I will continue to do so while adding a list of other products that I believe may help the pet (or their owner, as they have me). Some of these will have my name associated with the product's Website from which readers can purchase products, as I have become a distributor of a select few of these products while making them available at my veterinary hospital. I truly hope that this will not have that paradoxical effect experienced by others who offer products on their otherwise informational Website.
If at any time you are not satisfied with any of the products listed on this page, please write to me at and let me know. I will try to add testimonials and comments as I receive them in an attempt to give readers as much feedback on the product as possible.

  • Dick Van Patten Natural Balance Pet Foods- I have been using these in my practice ever since I.V.D. (Innovative Veterinary Diets/Royal Canin) made the fatal mistake of adding soybean oil to their product line. But I have recommended this food to numerous Internet clients over the years with great success in treating epilepsy, skin allergies, chronic ear infection, IBS and other immune-mediated conditions in both dogs and cats. Here is their Website:

  • Life's Abundance Premium Health Foods For Pets- I have stocked this food in my hospital for over a year and have been blown away by the response of and acceptance by the pets, especially the cats. I have never seen a cat food be accepted this well, with some finicky cats eating the kibble right off the exam table- something cats just don't normally do. The only draw-back is that these formulas contain multiple animal proteins, which makes it less ideal for the highly allergic pet than the the Dick Van Patten limited ingredient diets, especially in those pets that has not been food allergy tested. But these foods are devoid of the "big 4" and will solve many of today's diet-related issues. And, they can be ordered on-line! Here is the Website:

  • Solgar brand supplements- This is a familiar brand of nutritional supplments to those who have ever walked into a health food store. They are in amber bottles with a gold label and stand out in most displays along the vitamin isle. I have used many of their products but have been most impressed with their vitamin D3 supplement. I began taking it to improve sleep and daytime mood with astounding results. In fact, I am still amazed at the response and tell most of my clients about the phenomenal disppearance of those "dark days" that plagued me for years, even after the main recovery following my diet change. Here is their Website:

  • Moxxor Omega-3 and Antioxidant- Billed as "the most powerful all-natural omega-3 and antioxidant on the planet", Moxxor is the only multi-level sales product that I have ever seriously considered. The testimonials that I have received from other health care providers has convinced me that the claims Moxxor makes are true. After talking to a physical therapist with numerous client (and pet) testimonials and personally scouring the Internet for product reviews, I decided to take these myself and stock these in my own practice. Here is the Website:

  • Solid Gold SeaMeal- This granulated multi-vitamin, multi-mineral compound came highly recommended to me by the veteran veterinary technician who thankfully agreed to stay on board when I bought my current practice. She has been a breeder and shower of German Shepherds for years and years and successfully used this product for much of that time. SeaMeal contains  60 trace minerals, 12 vitamins, and 22 amino acids as well as digestive enzymes. all derived from natural sources, including seaweed- a great source of iodine. Here is their Website:

  • Pure & Clear Countertop Water Filtration System- This is great little twin-stage water filtration system offered through Dr. Mercola's Website. I had been planning to upgrade my little under-the-counter unit for years to make sure that the fluoride was removed but kept putting off the decision. This unit does it all- the only drawback being the fact that it is a countertop unit. But, when I read the literature, I decided to buy one. I unpacked it, hooked it up, tasted the water and fell in love, immediately sending an Email to my friends. Many people are still using inadequate charcoal filters or drinking xenoestrogen-laden bottled water and desperately need to consider something like this. Here is the Website:

I hope you enjoyed your time here and got something important from your stay. It is my goal to help all of mankind navigate through the jungle of medical information now available on the Internet and find the truth about the origins of what we call "disease" as well as discover the natural solutions for these conditions.
We do have our health's destiny in our own hands more than we've ever imagined, certainly more than most have ever been told. Think naturally and the answer will come.

The New is done! Yes, the time has finally come for this homemade Website to go the way of the buffalo. I know that you all join me in looking forward to using a site that is better organized and more accessible....prettier, too! I've even corrected most of those annoying typos (I hope).

Feel free to check it out now at I am still working hard to populate all of the pages so don't worry if a link does not work. They should all be active in the near future. In the meantime, this current site will remain on-line until I get all of the bugs worked out.

Let me know what you think! It's not too late to make some changes.

would still like to hear from you personally, though.
I used to have a nice little form in this space that would allow readers to send me a quick comment or testimonial. Unfortunately, as the Interent goes, I started getting 50-100 junk emails through this form and had to remove it.
So, until the new Website is up and running (soon!), I will have to ask people to formulate an Email of their own and send it. I do want to hear from you so I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to do this.
Simply title your Email "Visitor Comment" and include your name, occupationcomment/testimonial and return Email address (if you want to be contacted) and send it to:
dogtorj @ (Just remove the spaces on each side of the @ sign)
Please do not use this form to ask medical questions. See the Contact section for instructions for sending DogtorJ an Email inquiry concerning a medical condition.

Great News! will be getting a major facelift in the very near future. Yes, the time has finally come for this homemade Website to be taken over by someone who actually knows what they are doing. I know that you all join me in looking forward to having the site better organized and more accessible. It'll be prettier, too!
This is taking place for a number of reasons, the most of important of which will be revealed in the upcoming months. Yes, the book is finally in the works but there will be a major awareness project to go along with it.
So, please stay tuned. Anyone who would like to get on my mailing list can do so by simply using the visitor's comment area (like the one above) found at the bottom of each page.
Onward and upward!
