The New DogtorJ.com is done! Yes, the time has finally come for this homemade Website to go the way of the buffalo. I know that you all join me in looking forward to using a site that is better organized and more accessible....prettier, too! I've even corrected most of those annoying typos (I hope).

Feel free to check it out now at www.dogtorj.com. I am still working hard to populate all of the pages so don't worry if a link does not work. They should all be active in the near future. In the meantime, this current site will remain on-line until I get all of the bugs worked out.

Let me know what you think! It's not too late to make some changes.

In this section:

* This section will primarily be Emails that you have sent in response to the infomation on this site or testimonials of your personal experience with its dietary concepts. I have been getting a steady stream of Emails, particularly from dog breeders, who have  prior experience with many of the ideas presented in these papers and who have experienced great success once they began eliminating the trouble foods from their pet's diets. I will place as many of these letters as I can in this section to illustrate the wide range of conditions treated as well as the degree of response to instituting food elimination as part of the therapy to those conditions.

* A Quick Commentary- What is universal is the fact that people know in part and therefore do in part when it comes to accomplishing this goal of health through elimination. I am no exception, of course. Just like Dr. Adkins himself, who tells us to eliminate sugar through avoiding the grains BUT then tells us to eat all we want of the number one human allergen (dairy products), we get it partly right and thereby become partly well. So, how do we better strive toward perfection? Should we really be putting limitations on what this miraculous body is capable of, even in this day and age of excess and abuse?

* Your Testimonials- Click here to get to the section dedicated to your success stories and testimonials. I began a thread on a Labrador retriever forum back in July '05 to serve as a clearinghouse of testimonials I had received over the years. It contains a number of the positive and encouraging Emails that I have gotten dealing with both human and veterinary issues. It can be found by clicking this link: http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/showthread.php?t=47643 .However, they had a major server crash a couple of months ago and lost about 6 months of data. Unfortunately, I had a laptop crash just before that and lost much of the same data. (Yes, it's been an ordeal.) But, there should be more than enough examples of the kind of medical miracles that I have been hearing about listed on this page to get even the biggest skeptic interested. This approach does work...and phenomenally well!!!

* The Ultimate Testimony- This is one the most recent testimonials that I have received as of 2/28/06. I now call it "The Ultimate Testimony" as it contains so many of the elements that I have written about over the past 6 years...and gives the credit to Whom it is due...the Creator of the Universe.

* More of Your Letters - Again, please click this link for a Website forum thread that contains many of the letters I have received over the past 4 years.  ( http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/showthread.php?t=47643 ) Unfortunately, I have suffered two computer crashes over this time period which resulted in the loss of quite a bit of data. But hopefully the stories this thread contains will be adequate to convince the reader that this is an essential step to take toward optimal health. Miracles have happened by simply avoiding the things that I have so passionately written about. This should all make sense. If not, as I have written many times, then I have not done my job...yet.

A Quick Commentary:

What is universal is the fact that people know in part and therefore do in part when it comes to accomplishing this goal of health through elimination. I am no exception, of course. Just like Dr. Adkins himself, who tells us to eliminate sugar through avoiding the grains BUT then tell us to eat all we want of the number one human allergen (dairy products), we get it partly right and thereby become partly well. So, how do we better strive toward perfection?

For one thing, we must remember that the immune system operates on a molecular level and that once it does not "like" something like wheat or cow milk protein, it does not just want less of it, it wants NO MORE of it. Now, when it comes to many of the other conditions like pain syndromes and epilepsy, which don't necessarily involve the immune system, then a decrease in consumption of a particular substance like glutamate or aspartame may result in improvement, at least for a time.

Therefore, it is important to understand what it is that you are trying to accomplish in your dietary approach to that particular problem. If it is an allergic or immune-mediated condition, strict elimination of the offending food...and all of the foods involved..will be required. If it is a condition that occurs independent of the immune system (if that were really possible), then a reduction of the trouble food may result in improvement, if not just temporarily.

For example, I did this whole process in steps as I learned what was really affecting me so negatively. I first eliminated wheat which resulted in major gains. Once I realized that the dairy was just as bad and dropped all of it, I made further (and great) improvement. Then I was able to see that I had problems with other foods like corn, hydrogenated oils, and some food additives like MSG and aspartame. I could never have known that so clearly in the past while I was under the horrific influence of the big two...wheat and dairy.

I can only imagine how quickly I would have recovered had I dropped all of the offending items at one time. Wow! I may have felt like Superman in a couple of weeks instead of taking two years. (Yeah, some days I feel like I'm going to see his emblem on my chest when I take my shirt off at night. This is in stark contrast to how how horrible I felt just three short years ago.)

The bottom line? As you read these testimonies and any that you find anywhere on the net, keep in mind that we (including myself) know in part and we therefore "prophesy" in part. Many times in these health issues, partial knowledge is adequate to experience improvement, even to the point of  what you may feel is optimal health. But imagine... just imagine... what perfection would be like. Try to envision a state where all of the things that are affecting you and your pets...the food, the additives, the hydrogenated oils, the pollution, the red dye number whatever...have been identified and eliminated.

Impossible? Perhaps now, in this world we have developed. But, that does not mean that we should not strive to identify and eliminate as many of the things as possible that are detrimental to our health. There will be tremendous improvement all along the way in most cases. In others, the roadblock to success can come in the form of one major obstacle that we have not overcome. I see it every single day in my practice in either the pets or the clients. It must be complete "penitence" to reach optimal wellness, and one little chink in our armor may be enough to bring us down.

Like in life, we strive for perfection knowing full well that we will never be able to attain it. But, this does not mean that it is not a race worth running. There are rewards all along the way. But, if someone is looking for one thing to work every time in every individual then they are likely to disappointed. The key is to look at all of the things that have been shown to be a problem, apply them to each individual, eliminate as many as possible, and then view the results. If we are less than satisfied with those results, then it is time to repeat the process or start looking into more things that might be involved in that process.

This may seem like a never-ending task and it is. Why? Because we know in part. That will be true until we pass these things on to the next generation and they to theirs. But along the way, we will find many of the solutions to the problems that plague us and we and our pets will enjoy a much healthier life for having done so.

This is meant to be good news, not a burden to carry around that weighs us down. The Truth is that we have our health destiny more firmly in our grasp than you could ever imagine, certainly more than you have ever been told. This should give us hope and thereby the strength to continue in this quest. With these food issues, many times it only takes a small step of faith to see the Truth is what is written on this site. I often challenge my afflicted clients to eliminate wheat and dairy for just two weeks, knowing full we that they will see a response before that time. Day four brought rewards for me.

Sometimes, we have to believe something in order to see it. This may be one of those times for you. Believe this, then you may see it.

Dogtor J.

Your Testimonials

I began a thread on a Labrador retriever forum back in July '05 to serve as a clearinghouse of testimonials I had received over the years. It contains a number of the positive and encouraging Emails that I have gotten dealing with both human and veterinary issues. It can be found by clicking this link:

Unfortunately, I have gotten so busy that I have failed to keep this vital section updated for your reading and encouragement. I will try to do a better job in this regard. I know that it helps to see the testimonies of others who have taken this crucial step toward bettering their health and that of their pet.

So, let me lead off with the most recent testimonial that I have received as of 2/28/06. I now call it "The Ultimate Testimony" as it contains so many of the elements that I have written about over the past 6 years...and gives the credit to Whom it is due...the Creator of the Universe.

I hope this helps,

The Ultimate Testimony

Hello Dogtor J,

Two and a half years ago, my daughter was praying about her 5 year old son, Garrett, asking God, "What is wrong with my son?". He would kick, scream, hit, throw himself on the floor, have "tantrums". He would only wear black and grey. Family members with children asked her not to bring him over because he was so mean. Another said he should be tested for ADHD.(These symptoms started around two years of age. The doctors all said he was just going through a phase - all kids do.) For a long time she thought it had to be just a discipline problem.

After the first prayer, the word "wheat" popped into her head. She checked it out on the Internet and decided she didn't want to deal with that. So she prayed again, and got the same answer. Three times she prayed asking the same thing, and three times she got the same answer "wheat". So she decided to try it. Four days later her little boy sat on the floor for 2 hours making a coloring book for his little sister.

Before, at bath time, he would scream to have to undress, scream about getting his hair washed, scream about getting out. It was always a huge battle. After being gluten free for 4 days, the bath time went like this. He got into the tub after undressing himself, let his Dad wash his hair - no yelling (by anyone)- he got himself out of the tub, dried himself off, dressed, put the toys away, emptied the tub, cleaned up the bathroom and went peacefully to bed. WHAT A CHANGE. She got her sweet, intelligent little boy back.

She told me the symptoms of celiac disease on the phone and this story about Garrett. I said it sounded like me and decided to try going gluten-free too. Four days later , I was feeling great. (I had been depressed, over weight, tired, couldn't think. I'd sit in bed half the day, force myself to get up and get dressed, and then battle to get anything accomplished after I did get up. Total fuzz brain. And I had chronic anemia)

One of the main Websites my daughter found was yours. "The Answer" helped us so much. The first year we went gluten-free. The second year we gave up dairy. I have type-II diabetes and weighed 264 pounds. My A1C hadn't been below 7.2 in 12 years. The very month after I gave up the milk, my A1C was 6.4 and has been in the 6. range for the past year and a half. Oh, and I've lost 80 lbs. (I haven't given up sugar or fats like I tried on other diets, nor have I cut down on quantity. If I'm hungry, I eat.) My daughter lost 85 lbs. in the same time frame doing the same thing. It amazes us that even a tiny amount of milk will cause terrible food cravings. We have since also cut out soy and corn.

I don't eat any grains at all (no buckwheat either) because they all cause the foggy brain, tiredness, depression, diarrhea. Soy also causes my heart to beat irregularly (skipped beats and then extra hard ones). I used to have sinus headaches all the time, and often had colds, bronchitis, pneumonia. I was sick all the time. A sinus headache now means I ate the wrong thing. And I've only had two colds in the past 2 1/2 years (which only lasted up to 4 days.)

People feel sorry for us because we can't eat everything but if I had known this stuff in my 20's I'd have gladly given it up to feel so good. (I'd tried every diet I could find.) For the past few years I felt so rotten , I didn't think I'd live for more than ten years. I felt like an old lady (I was only 53), and had to climb stairs one at a time (right foot up, right foot up etc. and down the same way - except right foot down, right foot down...smile..) Now I can run up and down the stairs. I feel like I'm in my early 40's again. I got rid of the antidepressants right away (after no gluten). Who needs them when you feel so good.

After giving up some of these foods, we have become sensitive to what our bodies are telling us about other foods. Giving foods up has become so easy especially when plain healthy food tastes so good now. My doctor was concerned about me giving up milk but my bone density test came back saying I have the bone density of a 30 year old. (Thank you green veggies and fruits.)

At this time, my daughter's whole family is gluten-free, milk-free, soy-free, corn-free, and a couple are egg-free. (That includes one husband and 3 children.) My oldest sons family is milk-free and my son is also gluten-free. My youngest son is trying his oldest son on no gluten and the baby (1 year) can't handle milk. Their daughter was tested for celiac (biopsy) but the test was negative. I think she shouldn't have gluten because she is so hyper and itches all over. It takes a long time for people to be willing to try these diet changes.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for your obedience to God. I don't want to think where we'd be if your Website wasn't out there. I have copied "The Answer" off many times and given it to people who don't have computers. I have passed out your Website many times when people want to know what happened to me. I suspected you were a brother in Christ by what I read. That made it easier for me to give the information out to people. Two weeks ago, I gave this Website to a friend with insomnia. I also remembered that at one time she had suffered from severe anemia. She went gluten-free and after 9 days, she had had two complete nights of sound sleep which she hadn't had in 2 years.

I believe God wants His people well. Thank you so much for you obedience to Him.

Lynn

HOWDY,

I really do listen inspite of what it appears that I do.  Mark and I moved Liz to college on Aug. 21st.  I told Mark that when I got home I wanted to go on your food plan.  As you have told me, try it for fourteen days and see how you feel.   Medically, I really have two complaints, joint pain and extra weight.  Since I am a "fattie boomba lattie", the weight will take a bit more time, but the JOINT PAIN is gone.  It disappeared after about eight days of the first fourteen and has not returned.  I am thrilled. I have also shared this with several friends. They are very interested.  I hope they will visit your website as well as Dr. Mercolas.
Thank you for your advice.  Now if I just don't bark or meow all is well.

Sincerely,  Dottie

Hi.
I just wanted you to hear a success story. Three weeks ago I found your
home page and all you said made sense. I immediately changed my entire diet
to conform to what you reccommend. It isn't easy at the start but gets
better with time. I can tell you honestly that since that day my blood
sugar ( I am type 2 diabetic) has been dead normal. I have never been able
to achieve this before no matter how much med they gave me. I hope to start
reducing the meds soon. Thank you for jumpstarting my life!

Dear (Dogtor J.),

Your article was just recently referred to me.  It is superb and certainly in line with what I have discovered with my "pack" of Irish Setters.  I am attaching a brief (3 pages) article I wrote for our state Irish Setter Club.  I believe that your theories, and actual results, are well supported in what has occurred in specifically two of my dogs.  The one was near death after fighting IBD, Colonities and PeriAnal Fistulas for over 3 years.  He is now a picture of health at 9 1/2.  The epileptic dog has been seizure free since switching to raw diet last March, immediately after his first seizure cluster.  Thank you for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Terry

Letter #4

Hello (Dogtor J.),

Things are going pretty well with us - my wife is about four and a half weeks pregnant and still hasn't experienced another MS flare-up, besides the occasional burning sensation when she eats something to which she's intolerant. We're going in for her ultra-sound tomorrow morning so with any luck we'll know whether we're having a boy or girl. She stopped taking her Avonex shots in May after her last neurologist appointment and before we started trying for a baby. Her MRI showed no new activity at all over the preceding year, which is very unusual for MS patients and we're taking as confirmation of the elimination diet. (Of course the neurologist attributed it to the Avonex, but the interferon and beta-blocker drugs simply attenuate the flare-ups and don't prevent them entirely.)

Last winter we finally managed to find a doctor who would authorize an ELISA blood test for her, and lo and behold the results showed IgG immune responses to twenty-two different foods including the usual suspects wheat, dairy, soy and yeast. Most of the foods she had already identified with the elimination diet, but there were a couple of surprises such as canola oil - she had been cooking with it and was getting some burning that we couldn't assign to a particular food. It was nice having medical documentation that corresponded to what we'd empirically determined!

I've still been doing my own nutrition research, and this summer I started coming across a number of references to the work of a Dr. Weston A. Price, and I finally managed to find his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. Price was a research dentist who started noticing a dramatic increase in dental caries and orthodontic problems around the turn of the century, and embarked on a number of trips in the 20's and 30's to find control groups of people living on their traditional foods. He visited groups of people in the Faroe islands, isolated Swiss mountain valleys, African, Australian, South American and Eskimo tribes. What he invariably found was that people living on their traditional foods (which varied widely from one another!) had almost no cavities and perfect teeth, but succumbed to our modern problems within a generation of being exposed to the "displacing foods of modern commerce" - white flour, sugar, pastries, etc. He also found that these people were generally consuming ten times as many vitamins, minerals and other activators as those of us on a "modern" diet.

There are a couple of non-profit societies and other researchers who are continuing Price's work - Sally Fallon's site
http://www.westonaprice.org is an incredible resource. Her book Nourishing Traditions is both a cookbook of traditional recipes and the best overview of nutrition that I've ever seen. One of the very interesting things that she points out is that it was traditionally known that wheat and other grains contain anti-nutrients such as phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors and that it is very unhealthy to eat grains in a raw state. Up until the modern era of industrial and prepared foods people soaked their grains overnight in a slightly acid solution and ate it in the morning as a gruel or oatmeal. Soaking the grains would pre-digest the proteins and starch and deactivate the anti-nutrients, making them safe to eat.

I've been a runner for the past ten years, and about a year ago I started to have a chronic inflammation on the bottom of my left foot that I self-diagnosed as plantar fascitis. I started some recommended stretches before running and going to sleep at night that helped somewhat, but the problem never completely went away. I've also been a life-long breakfast cereal eater, and for the past couple of years had been buying Raison Bran cereal in bulk and eating it almost exclusively. After reading Price and Fallon's work I'd been removing all the refined sugar from my diet and switched to a breakfast of oatmeal soaked overnight in water, yoghurt and salt from a recipe in her book. I started this breakfast on a Saturday, and was absolutely shocked to discover that my plantar fascitis had completely abated by the beginning of the week, but returned in reduced intensity a few days later. I considered what else I was eating regularly and realized that during the week I was having an energy bar made from soy flour nearly every day, and sometime twice on days I went running. I stopped eating those energy bars and within a few days my plantar fascitis was completely gone and has stayed gone - just like turning a switch! I also realized that the my knees felt much better and didn't ache when going up the stairs.

I don't have any other indications of a wheat or soy intolerance and in fact now eat a five-grain breakfast mix of oats, wheat, triticale, rye and barley that I soak overnight. The problems appear to stem from the raw wheat cereal and soy flour, with all their anti-nutrients and enzyme inhibitors intact. I'm also not positive, but I think my astigmatism might have gone away too - I'll find out the next time I go to the optometrist! I've been following some other diet recommendations as well that may be contributing factors, and have been taking cod liver oil capsules for vitamins D & A, and the n-3 fatty acids.

Sincerely,

Don

Thank you for signing me up (for your Emailing list).

Incredible info !!!

I recently started drinking soy instead of low fat milk, thinking it would be beneficial.

After talking with David and reading the results of your research, I understood why I was having some stomach problems, fatigue, headaches and difficulty sleeping. I am no longer using the soy drink and feeling much better.

Thank you , thank you, thank you...

Beatriz.

I hope you enjoyed your time here and got something important from your stay. It is my goal to help all of mankind navigate through the jungle of medical information now available on the Internet and find the truth about the origins of what we call "disease" as well as discover the natural solutions for these conditions.

We do have our health's destiny in our own hands more than we've ever imagined, certainly more than most have ever been told. Think naturally and the answer will come.

would still like to hear from you personally, though.

I used to have a nice little form in this space that would allow readers to send me a quick comment or testimonial. Unfortunately, as the Interent goes, I started getting 50-100 junk emails through this form and had to remove it.

So, until the new Website is up and running (soon!), I will have to ask people to formulate an Email of their own and send it. I do want to hear from you so I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to do this.

Simply title your Email "Visitor Comment" and include your name, occupationcomment/testimonial and return Email address (if you want to be contacted) and send it to:
